Profile

Joan is an occupational therapist based in Belfast and has worked in a variety of settings throughout her career including inpatient services in hospitals, the community setting and as a care and adaptation expert within the medico-legal field. She has experience with complex rehabilitation cases and in the planning of the long-term management of such cases, including the transition from hospital to home, rehabilitation, seating, housing adaptations and recommending care requirements and considering future work roles.
Joan has extensive knowledge of implementing treatment plans and goals which are client focused. She uses a problem solving approach to create achievable goals and improve an individual’s functional ability in all aspects of their life, including daily activities, work and leisure roles. Her work history has involved treating a wide variety of injuries including fractures, multiple trauma, neurological conditions, spinal injuries and amputees. She has first hand experience of considering both the physical and psychological management of traumatic injuries including a history of treating people who were injured in the Northern Ireland conflict. Joan has experience liaising with health professionals, care staff, solicitors, architects, and housing agencies.
